It was rummered that in two years he would replace Fed Chairman Bernake with old pol Larry Summers. The last president to do something like this was Carter who appointed Miller to Fed Chairman which resulted in disaster. Later he was forced to appoint a pro, Volker. From then presidents have appointed Fed Chairman with good technical credentials. We elect the president and he gets to make the decisions for 4 years based on what he thinks is best.
