How would a conservative define an Obama presidency as good?

As an Obama hating conservative, as most of you are, what specific issue do you believe that Obama should enforce that would make you not hate him so much?

Or is your dislike just a done deal because he isn't a checklist conservative?How would a conservative define an Obama presidency as good?
Chris I think you say more of yourself when you address a question this way. I'm a conservative. But I am an American first and as an American I hope only for the best for our new president. I disagree with him on almost every issue and I hope that he will not push the more liberal of his plans. But I also believe that whatever he attempts he will do this because he believes it is best for America.

Some specifics I would like him to address would be Veterans' Affairs and with the appointment of GEN Shenseki to this post I think he has done well. I would like him to reconsider some of the impossible tax cuts he made on the campaign trail and I think we are already seeing that he is being "mugged by reality" on this issue and he is toning this down. We have a fine man in position as Secretary of Defense and he has decided to keep him in place for one year to ease the transition. Another good and steady decision.

Now what did you approve of in President Bush's term or did you simply hate him and his policies?

There is no checklist for conservatives or Republicans. We don't deny someone their place at the podium because they are not pro-choice as the DNC did to pro-choice democrats. So much of what liberals believe about us falls squarely in the category of "pot calling the kettle black".
The guy bought General Motors with our tax dollars. He's all about fair play...but it's not fair play when we have a 17-2% Tariff ratio with the Japanese and it's not fair play that their plants in the US pay their workers non-union wages. If he wants to be "fair" it's either all Unions or no Unions

If all his evil plans are blocked.
Implementing conservative policies from start to finish and standing up to the far left. He has come way over to the middle since the election almost totally abandoning his far left base that came out in record numbers to elect him- I'd be pi$$ed if I was one of them but their heads are so far in the sand they cannot see straight.How would a conservative define an Obama presidency as good?
"IF" he doesn't destroy us working people----- that will be good.

"IF" he doesn't turn the country Communist ---- that will be good.

But don't bet your paycheck on it.

And Democrats, don't bet your Welfare Check on it.
Fiscal Responsibility.
If he resigned and admitted that he lied about his past close relationships with anti-American types and terrorists, or if he hadn't spent the largest amount of money in US history for his inauguration

during the worst economic crisis since the great depression, I might have had a slight bit of respect for this unqualified little man.
Lets just see if it can bring it back to where it was just before it was elected shall we?

Nov 2008 Unemployment at 4 %

Interest rates at less than 3%

Gas less than $1.75 a gallon.

Lets see him do that shall we?
First off, hating him for not having the same views as we do is just plain childish. I am really hoping to see some fiscal conservatism. I am also hoping that he continues on his path with nonpartisan decisions. I am a little relieved to see that he is not too far to the left.
I seriously doubt the majority of people on this site are conservatives, but, anyway...

If Obama wages war with success in Afghanistan;

If Obama does not saddle the American people with more and more debt, and instead, looks to sound and rational fiscal policy to steady the economic environment;

If Obama does not fall into the liberal trap of rewarding identity politics with empty rhetoric and useless spending;

If Obama acted above the remarkably biased limitations of liberalism when setting new domestic policies;

If Obama lays blame for uneducated youths squarely where it belongs, that is, with the parents;

If Obama celebrates America, and, does not criticize America to a fault.

Then, he would have my support.
vtjames said it best. I don't hate Obama. I wish him all the best and I hope he proves all that did not vote for him (including me) wrong. I hope he turns out to be the best president ever. He has a lot to live up to, a lot of expectations from his fanclub.
No terrorist attacks, no universal healthcare, no raise on small business tax, a halt or decrease in the size of government, and not weakening our national defense...those are just a couple things
We will hold him to the same level as you liberals did for Bush for the last 8 years.

If he can keep the security of this nation.

If he doesn't put our taxes through the roof and BTW if you raise taxes on the rich they will pass that unto us the middle class.
You have nothing to worry about. Conservatives will be at least twice as fair and open-minded with Comrade Obama as CLODS (Communists, Liberals, and Other Demoncraps = Socialists) were with Bush.

You do know what twice zero is, right?
I don't like him simply because he has done nothing prior to being elected. It amazes me that people would elect someone so inexperienced as him.

And his promises to have a bipartisan cabinet that is not full of "Washington insiders" was not fulfilled, so why should I expect him to do the rest?

For me to call is a success, he needs to lead the country off of foreign oil and start making the country green (with something other than ethanol), make smart decisions about the economic crisis (which no one in government has really done so far) to lessen the impact, if possible, he needs to do something about the budget, and not take credit for troops pulling out of Iraq.

The biggest thing though, is he needs to remember that he is OUR president, he belongs to the United States, not the world. To many people see him as an international leader of sorts (remember his huge rally in Germany?) and he cannot be swayed by that. He needs to act in our best interest.

I should note that I am a registered independent and I lean a little bit to the left on a lot of the issues but I still don't particularly like the guy.
An Historic Event"..that's all I keep hearing. I don't see what the BIG deal is! It happens every day..... When January 20, 2009 rolls around, it'll just be another black family moving into government housing.
