Who Believes President Obama Needs the Power to Control the Internet?

Two Senate bills No. 773 and 778 will grant President Obama the power to access private data, create an office of internet control and the power to shut down whole internet networks in case of a cyber-emergency.

Who believes this is a good idea and why?Who Believes President Obama Needs the Power to Control the Internet?
This is a bad idea. It is more government meddling in things it should leave alone.
I was very intrigued by this and I read some of bill 773 and all of 778. I couldn't find anywhere that the president could shut down the internet. However I didn't read all of 773 and if you did see it, I would really like to know where it is because I could have missed it. That being said, what I did read made sense. A lot of our information is out there on various sites, and if they get hacked that would be really bad. An agency that would prevent this would be a very good thing.Who Believes President Obama Needs the Power to Control the Internet?
Let's see .... China has penetrated the first and second defenses of our Naval and Air Force computers. The power grid has already been compromised - the computerized controls of some sections are being held hostage. Airline computers no longer function. Teams are working to defuse the attack, but multipronged attacks via thousands of civilian and military zombie computers overwhelm our fragmented defenses.

Now, what would you do?

This is, after all, the most plausible first-strike action any reasonably capable hostile would take.... and it would have been prepared years in advance by placing trojans, worms and viruses in carefully chosen computers - turning them into waiting, willing agents.
Do you realize that every power grid, every single water system and most defense systems are vulnerable to cyber attack?

Seems like you'd want some central authority to be able to stop it if you saw major power grids failing due to a cyber attack. Ever been in a major city when there is a big power failure?Who Believes President Obama Needs the Power to Control the Internet?
that will be a terrible mistake if that pulls off. and why is he even bothering with the frickin internet and healthier cafeteria lunches for kids instead of focusing on the economy and unemployment and everything else that is turning this country into ruin? he's all talk and no action.

and all those stupid senators, both democrats and republicans alike, don't do a damn thing either.
It's a terrible idea because every time government attempts to regulate something it always starts with a valid good reason then evolves into complete control. We will one day wake up and be like China who has placed a lock and key over internet censorship for their society.
Obama is really messing up!
everyone knows that putting the master switch to the interwebs is a very bad idea.

Soon everyone will know where the final boss of the interwebs is.
OBAMA needs the POWER to stop lying to us.

He also needs the power to THINK and ACT like an AMERICAN.

The idea of giving this guy ANY MORE POWER than he already abuses... is a BAD IDEA.
Not a good idea. Every layer of government involvement is manipulated as much as possible to allow them maximum power and minimum accountability.
This sounds unconstitutional, and I really doubt it will pass. If it does, im going to call my representative and senators and sceam untill my lungs fall out.
Big Brother was feared under Bush %26amp; now look at who wants a "change we can believe in". Both major political parties want to keep tabs %26amp; silence any opposition Freedom of speech includes opposing opinions being expressed.
the whole internet? that would be interesting to watch.

but yeah, thats kinda illegal

but then again so is most of that health care plan
Sounds like an invasion of free speech and invasion of privacy. Both illegal and unconstitutional.
thats another thing he will mess up. why take the risk? :/
Oh, boy! Just what we need. More government!!!
