How will the Obama health care people determine what I can afford for health insurance?

The Obama administration has promised that we all will have affordable insurance when his new plan takes effect. How do they determine this? Do I tell them what I can afford and they send a list of companies that have insurance for that price, or are they just going to say "this is price and we are telling you that you can afford it".How will the Obama health care people determine what I can afford for health insurance?
i'd like to know, too. but at this point, i don't care because by the time obamacare kicks in, i will be old enough for Medicare. until then, i'd better not get sick because i own a house, and it is my home.

they could just make an extra line in the form 1040 that asks for what you pay for health insurance, and if it is more than 10% of your net income, just send you the difference in a refund.
No one has any idea how this will work. Obama, Pelosi, and Reid just wanted to get a bill passed. None of them have a clue what is in it and neither does anyone else. No government program in America has ever worked. They are all broke and costing tax payers huge sums of money. Health care will be no different.

Socialized medicine will not work in America because of the huge profits made by our health care corporations and those individuals at the top of the industry. They will break the government within two years. How will the Obama health care people determine what I can afford for health insurance?
As I understand it, they want to make it like our systems in Europe. If this is so, I feel sorry for you. You will pay for health care yearly, it will come out of tax revenue. Because we will all pay the same amount, eventually doctors will all make the same amount of salary and only will increase as they earn seniority in the system. what does this mean. well weather you are a good or a bad doctor you will still get paid the same. You will not have a choice as to which doctor you see and, the quality of service will drop dramatically, why? because the system will over stretch itself with not enough doctors and too many patients per doctor. the government will eventually become the health insurance company, then you will be told who to see, for how long, how many times, and even how many issues they can cover per visit. yes this is how it works in some of or countries in Europe with this system. We have it, we know all about it, go ahead get a british friend and ask him to tell you your future. So don't worry about how much you will pay, that is the least of your worries. Sorry, you were all lied to
Although everybody thinks the UK has free medical,we don't. 11% of our wage goes towards if by law whether we can afford it or not, unless unemployed. So if you follow suit it's a case of "this is price and we are telling you that you can afford it". Doesn't matter to them if you're working 90 hours a week or more on a low wage to keep a roof over your head or not.How will the Obama health care people determine what I can afford for health insurance?
It will be based on a percentage of your income. I believe the limit for affordability will be 9.5 percent. If there's no qualified plan available within that range, even with the government subsidies, you will be exempt from the mandate. I think. I guess we won't really be sure until the new system is up and running. Or maybe not. It's way more complicated than it should be.
It will probably be from your tax return. There are so many discrepancies with this whole thing, Americans aren't going to like it at all I think. It's bad - it's just plain ol' bad. Well, the majority didn't like it to begin with, but the Democrats rammed it through anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire thing flops and changes in the next couple years.
Interesting to read the answers to this question like......... by the time ........ I qualify for Medicare.

What a lame brain. Medicare is well working government regulated Health care.

I am certainly looking forward to the new Health Care and I am a Medical Professional.
I have to cut my arms and legs in order to to pay $709.95 per month to Massachusetts BC/BS currently. I seldom use the service. I need to cut more of my body part if I see my doctor. No wonder why my Primary Physician is so fat.

My guess is they base it on your tax return/yearly income. Expect to get ripped off and jerked around.
its a system that works well in britain so you'll be fine
short answer:

your employer will have to file if you have a policy through them and you will have to file on your tax return (however often you are required to file). if you say you can't afford to buy it, they subsidize you. you have to buy an acceptible policy from their exchange. all employers will dump their employees off of company policies so everyone will be in the exchange.

more detailed answer on difference between now and after obamacare:

if you don't have insurance now (can't get it through employer and don't want to go on esurance.com and find some) then you are basically rolling the dice. yeah, if you're young, a policy to cover you for unexpected things you couldn't take care of yourself would set you back about $100/mo (mostly because the government won't allow companies to sell catastrophic policies, interstate policies, or negotiate group rates the way corporations do), but you probably will be better off if you are young and healthy just paying $40 or so at a local walk in clinic if you need to see a doctor and then going to wall-mart and getting prescriptions filled for $5. the odds of you needing insurance are minut. you can always show up an emergency room for something serious and as long as you're making the minimum payments they won't try to sue you. if you own a home you need to protect, you can just declare bankruptcy and blow off the bill entirely.

after obamacare takes effect... no difference. they still can't turn you down at the emergency room if you don't have insurance. there will still probably be cheap walk in clinics and cheap drugs at wall-mart. as obama describes it, there are no preexisting conditions, so you could literally break your leg or get a hernia, then get insurance, and the insurance company has to pay thousands of dollars in expenses for some idiot who got insurance AFTER needing medical attention for a specific condition. the "insurance policies" will also mandatorily cover smoking sessation, abortion, weight loss counseling, and all kinds of things you will probably never need, so the incentive for you to get the insurance and pay for medical services to fat ho's and sick old people is low. i use quotes when i say "insurance", because the word at this point has been bastardized into a completely new meaning. it no longer works like your home or car insurance, for example, protecting you from unforeseen events that you couldn't handle on your own. to continue the analogy, imagine if a company is forced to sell you home insurance EVEN AFTER your home has been destroyed by the tornado, and it also is mandated by law to perform lawn care, paint your house, and water your flower beds. how long do you think this will last if the supreme court is weak enough to allow the federal government to mandate private citizens buy products from government specified private companies? what is the precedent that gets set if the court doesn't declare this unconstitutional? what other products can the federal government force you to buy from private companies they name? can they force you to buy a smith and wesson from their favorite gun store? obamacare is a train wreck coming down the tracks
