My grandfather is an engineer for coal companies, so this hits pretty close to home. Obama can't win if this is how he thinks. We can't afford it, not now.Why does Obama want to make energy more expensive and want to bankrupt coal companies?

Obama is out to prove to his constituents that he is pro-renewable energy i.e. that he is another of the many Disciples of the Church of Global Warming, presided over by the High Priest Al Gore (who by the way was the laughing stock of US politics not so many years ago, how the worm has turned :)).

We have the same issues in Australia, politicians on both sides who are overlooking the cost of greening the economy and then justifying it by saying the end is nigh if we don't do something about global warming.

He was talking about penalizing the CHINESE if they continued to build coal burning plants and polluting the earth. Obama is very much against building new coal power plants, and eventually eliminating our reliance on 'dirty' power sources (coal and oil.) Coal will have to go away anyway and the sooner the better. Obama supports clean coal which would help your grandpa keep his job and nuclear and other alternatives that will create jobs now. Sticking with the status quo just isn't going to cut it.
