Why does the Obama administration keep TOYING with the idea of prosecuting people in the CIA?

When the going gets rough for Obama out come the water boarding or prisoner abuse talk and threats of prosecution.

Are they going to actually do it this time?

If not shouldn't they just STFU and stop bringing it up every couple of months as a distraction? Why does the Obama administration keep TOYING with the idea of prosecuting people in the CIA?
I don't think it's a distraction so much as it is a ploy to keep the left side of his own supporters engaged.

When he needs to look like he's taking a strong stand on ethical issues that matter in the foreign policy realm, most of his supporters are anti-war, and the left side of those supporters spend a lot of their outrage time on things like Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay, and CIA prisoner abuse. When Obama needs to hold their support in foreign policy, he drags out the prosecution card to firm up support with that particular group. They eat that stuff up like ham loaf.
One word: Distraction

No crimes were committed and the Left know it. They also know that if they choose to investigate it, the Left will also get dragged in as well. Its for this very reason why I cant believe theyre even going to risk it.

Come on Lefties, have you truly convinced yourselves that not one single Democrat in the House or Senate knew anything at all for eight straight years? Why does the Obama administration keep TOYING with the idea of prosecuting people in the CIA?
pandering to the left wing of his party but yes i doubt someone is going to get charged with war crimes if they had dirt they would have used it by now, the left just laps this stuff up
I agree, distraction, but also because it is one of the things that he promised to his "bark at the moon" base. Why does the Obama administration keep TOYING with the idea of prosecuting people in the CIA?
It is the technique of distraction.

You focus attention in a certain area so that other things you are doing go un-noticed.
Bush allowed the CIA to be corrupted, apparently, to a great extent.

Can you think of anything more dangerous than a corrupt intelligence agency?

The reason you think it is no big deal is because you are under the impression that if the Republicans allow it to be corrupted, it will support the Republican agenda in its dealings.

You could not be more wrong.
When they cannot politically deliver for their far left whackos (e.g. single payer or even possibly public option) they bring out the CIA and flog them publicly. That helps the loonies settle down then they stop short of actually doing anything since that would be actionable (e.g. wrongful termination, lawsuits, messy court hearings, etc.).

The only problem that Obama has is that Eric Holder is pretty much a loony himself so he has to be kept on a short leash.

Sounds like Panetta has had just about enough of being a whipping boy. I'd love to hear his unbiased opinion of his boss.
It is my estimation that a continual pressing for an investigation of the issue will eventually draw out those who fear that an investigation could catch up with them so they rat out the nest to cover for themselves before an investigation can be "official"...like Tom Ridge, Scott McClelland, etc.

Eventually, this "ratting out" process will narrow down the culprits within the Bush cabal that perpetuated these illegalities...pretty smart tactic if you ask me. Its also probably why Cheney is rushing to get his book out before Bush does.

Source? Wasn't it Scooter Libby who outed a CIA Agent because her husband wrote a critical report about the Bush Administration? And though he was convicted Bush excused Libby from serving any prison time?

Unlike the President before him, Barack Obama is capable of concentrating on more than one thing at a time. What you hear about from the press is not regulated by the government.

Just because you only hear about the possibility of prosecution every few weeks, doesn't mean they aren't looking at it full time, it just mean the press are only telling you about it part-time.
I wish the media would call the Obama administration on it but we all know that none of them will except Fox.

Holder needs to resign and I am surprised the public has not spoken out for this.
