Basically to silence free speech. Notice the Unions don't have to disclose anything . . .
Full Disclosure is necessary in a democracy, or else how are voters supposed to make informed decisions? Tax dollars are spent on the projects, so shouldn't we taxpayers know who we are giving our money to, and what they are doing with it?

Obama order could make corporate political spending public

"Under the proposed order, all companies bidding for federal contracts would be required to disclose money spent on political campaign efforts, including dollars forwarded through associations like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other private groups.

Backers of the disclosure measure say that it is intended not to reward political donors with federal contracts but to shed light on corporate influence over elections. They argue the business opposition is driven by self-interest."

But don't worry, the Republicans are so terrified of this idea they will do what they did last September and block the bill from ever coming to a vote. I'm sure they don't want people to know who they bribed to get the contract.

Edit: No, the law only requires them to disclose. It does not put a condition of getting a contract as being which "side" you contribute to.

Just last month the U.S. sent two Air force cargo planes to help Mexico battle back wildfires in the northern part of it’s country, fires that burned 386 square miles. It’s a move that West Texas Congressman Francisco Canseco (R-Fort Stockton) thinks is a hypocritical one by the Obama administration as Texas has requested the same sort of federal aid but has been denied it.



“386 square miles pales with the 2.5 million acres of land that have been burned and scorched beyond recognition,” says Canseco.



And Former FEMA Director Michael Brown thinks that a “snub” like this reeks of politics as he believes Texas deserves a similar response from the federal government.



“I think what’s going on is we see the Chicago style politics. I’m amazed that he’s put FEMA in this awkward position of not allowing federal assistance,” says Brown. So far Texas has spent an estimated 70 million dollars combating the states wildfires................ Fresh off his Osama bin Laden victory lap, President Barack Obama stopped spiking the football long enough to visit Texas on Tuesday. Obama rode into town and went from being Obama: Texas Stranger to Obama: Texas Money Grabber. First stop, El Paso, where he proudly pedaled his inane immigration agenda, then it was off to a fundraiser in Austin.



It seems a little odd that a president who refuses to designate the wildfire-battered Lone Star state a disaster area is only too happy to line his pockets with the dollars of the residents from the state famous for its “Don’t mess with Texas” motto. The audacity of politics the almighty dollar in a re-election season.



Obama’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) refuses to give Texas disaster status, and the federal aid that goes with it, but the administration is apparently only too happy to send two specially equipped U.S. Air Force C-130 cargo planes to Mexico recently to help battle wildfires. The C-130s were reportedly requested by the Mexican government and the U.S. State Department. What Mexico wants, Mexico gets. What Texas wants, Texas gets a thumb in the eye. A news report said that the planes and crews will stay as long as they’re needed, according a spokesman for Northern Command.Why does Obama want to pass a law to make government contractors reveal who they make political donations to?
He already knows who contributes to his friends, because the donors remind him. Exactly like every single other politician. He just wants to make sure the public knows too. Obviously.
