Aside from the fact that it looks better for the audience to be able to look him in the eye....
What's the difference between Obama reading off a teleprompter and Bush reading off note cards and having gaffe after gaffe because of it?How is Obama using a teleprompter any different from Bush using his note cards?
Not much...they are just hating...
It's an elevated level of pretense, 0 can read a 'prompter like crazy, but it's not the 'real' him, unlike good ol' bumble Bush, just using hand written note cards to jog the memory and filling in with Bushisims. O is a complete fake compared to Bush in that regard.

Why do you suppose 0's events are tightly controlled with pre-screened questions that he can rehearse for? Otherwise he's 'deer in the headlights' and stutters more than talks or makes 'circular' answers at best. How is Obama using a teleprompter any different from Bush using his note cards?
It doesn't make a difference. For those who say that notes just have key points, most people cannot read without faltering for the length of time that Obama speaks. He obviously rehearses them. Who cares if he has the whole speech there for comfort? Plus, public speaking ability has nothing to do with anything. It is not indicative of ones intelligence or ability to think on their feet. Some people are better at it than others.
This is yet another lame criticism from the right.
The difference is note cards are just what the name implies, cards that contain notes pertaining to what you are talking about. Usually they will have a main point and some sub points and you need to know what you are talking about to use them. Basically they are used to help the memory.
A teleprompter on the other hand has the entire speech typed out so you only have to read it.How is Obama using a teleprompter any different from Bush using his note cards?
The media is in an uproar over this because the TelePrompter interferes in where they can set up and put their camera's.
Also the other negatives with a TelePrompter are
1. He is now not making eye contact with his audience.
2. It makes it look like he is just reading the answers instead of answering them for himself
Obama is helping save trees by not using note card, however, he is not helping the note card industry. Bush was emphasizing the importance of note cards and saved electricity.
Bush never had his whole speech on his note cards. He actually knew what he was talking about and had key points on his cards. He did not have his face in his note cards the whole time....He knew what he wanted to get across and used his note cards as a ref.
Having some key words on some cards is not the same as having your whole speech right in front of you. I would rather suffer a few "gaffes" than know that someone is just reading what someone else wrote. It means they don't even know what they're saying.
It's really no different. In fact, they all use them.
I would, however, love to change things up like Jim Carey did to that other anchor in "Bruce Almighty".
I would love for Obama to say "I do the cha cha like a little school girl" on national TV.
Note cards are never likely to lose electric power.
God knows should the teleprompters fail.
I'd have to tell all the old jokes I'd ever heard.
My best ones, I remember only when I'm drunk. That's the condition I was in when I heard them.
It's not. Both are acceptable tools in public speaking.
However:
Teleprompters = new technology = Obama
Index cards = old technology = Bush
There is no difference.
For that reason, it notable that former-President Bush was a much, much worse public speaker than President Obama.
The only difference is one used note cards and the other used a teleprompter, that's it nothing special one used technology the other didn't. It is still the same effect
Well for one thing, Bush has used a teleprompter as well, and still made ridiculous errors. Obama at least can read the teleprompter reasonably well.
Because someone wasn't handing Bush new note cards to help him answer unexpected questions.
Using a teleprompter makes it look like Obama can't think on his feet.
I believe Bush is dyslexic and had trouble reading the teleprompter. He did fine when talking off the cuff. As to Obama - no comment!
Oh the next thing the republicans will be doing is checking the whitehouse toilets to see what color Obama's bowel movements are.
B/c practically every politician can give a speech w/o notes Obama can't.
I read that as "teleporter" and thought perhaps Obama had actually done something useful for a second...
Well, since Obama is "perfect", the media needs to find SOMETHING to make fun of him for.
Maybe Bush's vision wasnt as good as Obama's so he COULDNT read a teleprompter LOL I dont understand the question...?
Bush could not use teleprompters because he could not stand still enough. And did not have the basic skills to do it either...
It's not different at all...people are just looking for reasons so that they can criticize him. Obama Rules!!
Obama utilizes technology, Bush was living in Biblical times literally
Bush couldn't read or write so he had to have picture cards.
You look better looking out than constantly looking down, public speaking 101.
Have you seen Obama ever speak from the heart and not some prepared speech? I have seen Bush do it.
glancing at key topics and reading an entire speech that someone else wrote are not the same thing. Duh.
Note cards have "notes" on them. Not the entire speech.. obama might as well be reading from a book...
Odumma is just plain Odumma, get used to it.
and this is important because.......
